iOS 5 Tour Day 4: Reminders

If I did not have some sort of To-Do list, or App that constantly nagged at me to do something, I’d only have my wife! And as much as she can na… remind me, I still forget to get the milk, update her site, have the house move slightly to the left…much to her annoyance.

So far I’ve gotten along with a nice little app called Due, but with iOS 5, Apple has taken out the To-Do’s from iCal, injected them with pure steroids, and spun them off into their own app called, originally enough, Reminders.

Granted, there is not much you can do with a reminders app, it’s a list, albeit a nice list, with a nice visual calendar to go by. Easy controls to change due dates, manage lists and dismiss items, it looks to be yet another Apple grade app, but it’s just a to do yea?

No, it does have one rather interesting feature that sets it apart: location based reminders. When you create an item in Reminders, you have an extra option to add a location. Using GPS, it will know when you are within a certain range of that location, and trigger your reminder! So yea, when I’m driving down the road and happen to be getting close to Co-op, Reminders will pop up and tell you to pick up that Milk.

Location based reminders = happy marriage!
