When I pulled off the bottom case on this beast, my face fell. The water damage was extensive.. to say the least. But, altering being found in a puddle of water, I shouldn’t have anticipated less. The question was… could we pull this very expensive piece of equipment back from the dead?

The Genius Bar would have laughed at you and called “Todd” to help you spend lots of money.
Water Damage – What Can Be Done?
If the corrosion is to extensive, it will eat away at traces and chip connections.. requiring a new logic board or an expensive board level repair. It really did look like that had happened here. The unit was completely stripped down, each and every component taken out and thoroughly clean with rubbing alcohol. After an overnight drying out, we resembled the unit and really didn’t have any expectations. We slapped it all together in a minimum system configuration (meaning we only connect the absolute necessary components to turn it on) and hit the power button.. nothing.
But then, a second or two later.. the damn thing came to life! She booted up clean and presented us with a very surprising login screen. We logged in and it ran fine.. except for the keyboard and trackpad.
Not a problem, though an expensive part for this model, it was ordered, installed and the machine runs like a dream.. for a lot cheaper than a new 15″ MacBook Pro.

Technically a zombie…
